A PowerPoint presentation is a way to give a lot of information in a minimal amount of space. They are often used by students for class projects, teachers who give lessons to multiple classes on the same subject and employers who want employees to know of information about the company. The design of the PowerPoint is important as you don’t want viewers to look at a block of text, and you don’t want them to see a presentation that is made of pictures, either. A custom PowerPoint design will have a balance of text and pictures so that viewers don’t get bored and don’t get lost in the details.
Keep the number of slides that are used to a minimum. You’re going to be talking about the topic while the slides are viewed, so most of the information should be stated instead of placed on the slides. The PowerPoint is there as a reinforcement in case you forget what you’re discussing and as a way to give a mental image of what you are stating. Ten slides is usually a good number for most presentations.
When selecting the font that you use on the slides, you want to use something that is easy for viewers to see without straining. Consider using a bold feature with whatever font you choose to make it even easier for viewers to see. There are some fonts that have an elegant look, but they should be reserved for titles as the letters can sometimes be hard to see as they tend to run together. Fonts that are about three inches in height are ideal if there is a large number of people in the room.
One way to keep the presentation simple is by using bullet points. Avoid using complete sentences, and simply state short facts that back up the information that you give to the audience. Graphs are ideal as well as a few pictures that go along with what you are saying. Try not to use a lot of motion in the presentation as this can be distracting from the points that you are trying to make.
